Space / Space LAB.MitOst Fest

Interactive Audio-Visual installation.

Description:
Installation represents an illuminated area, where the power of illumination depends on the activity level of people in the room, the intensity of their motion. The intensity of light on the other hand results in sound produced in the same area and determines its frequency and power. The generated sound consists of four waves, whose frequency (wave length) is varying between the dimensions
of the room (2m – 5m).

About:
We are the witnesses of epochal mystical-tectonic changes, where the main actors are these abandoned, dumb buildings, left stoned after collapse of socialistic era. This building layer of past formation, seeking for cohabitation with the sudden reality of open market and new realia, stricken as a lightening in the evening sky of command economy world, are acquiring new actuality, via replacing their functionality (the original medium they used to gravitating with space and time) by creativity - we see, these blocks are turning into the generators, generating their own, original content. These archaeo-futuristic spaces are now free from the shell of function, levitating in the social-mystical field of own radiation.

Electric Meters / Backyard Stories

The work uses electric meters installed in building blocks whose blinking lights
represent the visualization of family’s activity and the dynamics of the neighbourhood.
The main idea of the project is to transform this visual information
into aural signal and as a result to get a dynamic sound rhythm the melody of
which depends on how intensively a family uses electricity.

The transformation of visual information into sound happens in the processor
that feeds on information from camera facing the electric meters. The signal is
then fed back to the amplifiers that are attached to the meter. Along with the
sound, the observer will see the video of working meters at the same instance
through the projection of their flashing forms.

Red & Blue

Vasili Macharadze.

If a feeling of privacy is developed constantly through dialogue, the Soviet environment, as a monologue system, was initially established as the unknown segment, and its development has been ongoing regardless of our choice. An environment-reconstruction strategy of the new governmental system is concentrated on lighting and illumination, but despite the fact that this approach is serving the needs of society and may be optimal for the present, here the process remains isolated from the society’s choice. Based on the mistakes of the past and contemporary strategy, Red & Blue is an experiment making concessions in the surroundings, which means interactivity between the opposing sides (as the city and its citizen) in order to renew the dialogue. The installation is a lighting system, where every passerby can change light conditions and their color by pulling down the cables to change them from red to blue or vice versa.

Talking City / Mindware. Technologies of Dialogue

The project is on the hidden connections which are covered by the functionality of the system and which belongs to the intimate sphere of system units.
The stops are located on the routes of the transport and their connection is consequent although its possible to see the same people on distinct stops which connect this particular stop to another one. It could be said that the passenger represents some kind of linguistic unit, a signal, using which a connection is made within any two stops.
To register the links we took some interesting information regarding each stop, key facts it could tell us about it, and after braking it into messages, using the signals we spread it to other stops.
The feedback was result into a map, where the meta-systematic connections of the municipal transport were formed, and also the resulting texts which were formed randomly  due to the human touch (to see the map click on this link).

Revaluation

Soviet Structures & Society Reconection Lab.

The project means to observe and reintegrate the buildings, built in soviet times, with the public spaces, using the self-parody. It can be said that these buildings are irrelevant with the changeable environment after the   period of soviet hysteria has passed and the main function of them is lost.   The structures are irrelevant with the environment and the language of them looks like the monologue (delirium) standing aside from the surrounding postulates.

Is it possible to create the dialogue by giving the direction to the   stream of chaotic monologue? Is it possible to give back the public interest to the buildings by the way of  interpreting  the shapes and the functional findings?

Sunny Ropeway

How can a structure that represented the mechanicality of a human can get into contact with a modern human the idea of whom is uncertain and fragmented itself?

Revaluation.

Our actions follow from exhibitioners practice and are directed towards fixed exterior objects. It is a sort of experiment to check if it’s possible to protect part of a structure from erosion by isolating and then conserving it; if it could attract interest as an exposition, once we actively engage surrounding society during rehabilitation.

Attractive Factory

Is it possible to attract the public’s interest and acceptance beyond the  structure’s function on existed dialogues foundation if the dialogue was infant in it’s self?

In order to improve and overcome the post soviet environment the society turned to the   rehabilitation and modernization of playing grounds. Our goal is to use existing strategy on environment segments itself and to renovate relations between the structure and the public by replacing the building’s first idea and provoking public’s involvement.
We’ve found the building that was the pavement factory in previous times.  The huge  rectangle  building is connected 30  degrees inclined narrow corridor which once served as the space for moving the lorry with industrial raw materials. I learnt all these in my childhood. Constructing the dialogue with this space  the image of kids attraction arouse in my mind.

As the building has lost it’s first function, we’ll try to replace this role with the dialogue held in the past, and to connect it with other similar modern shapes in the area.
